A Journey of Harmony, Emotional Flow & Renewal with Wandi

About the Journey

At the heart of this extraordinary journey is Ulun Danu Beratan, Bali’s legendary floating temple and one of the island’s most recognisable spiritual landmarks. Rising gracefully from the calm waters of Lake Beratan and surrounded by mist-covered mountains, this is the temple seen in some of Bali’s most famous photographs, postcards and travel images. Its iconic silhouette has become an enduring symbol of the island and was even featured on Indonesia’s former 50,000-rupiah banknote.

Yet Ulun Danu Beratan is far more than a beautiful photography location. It is an important sacred complex where Balinese Hindu spirituality exists alongside a Buddhist stupa and architectural details shaped by centuries of cultural exchange. Hindu, Buddhist and wider Asian influences—including elements associated with Chinese-Buddhist traditions—come together here as a powerful expression of harmony, tolerance and spiritual coexistence.

Dedicated primarily to Dewi Danu, the goddess of lakes, rivers and water, the temple reflects the sacred role of water in Balinese life. Lake Beratan helps nourish agricultural land throughout the region, connecting the temple deeply with fertility, abundance, balance and Bali’s traditional Subak irrigation system.

Our journey begins at Sangeh Monkey Forest, where playful and curious long-tailed macaques live freely among towering nutmeg trees and ancient temple grounds. Meeting the monkeys and taking photographs with them under local supervision can be one of the most joyful and memorable moments of the day. Beyond the wildlife experience, Sangeh is a peaceful sacred sanctuary with a beautiful spiritual atmosphere—an ideal place to ground ourselves and reconnect with nature before continuing into Bali’s highlands.

From the ancient forest, we travel towards the still waters of Lake Beratan and the magnificent Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. The journey concludes at Banyumala Twin Waterfall, hidden within the lush landscapes of North Bali. Here, participants can swim in the natural pool, feel the refreshing power of the cascading water and take part in a guided meditation focused on emotional release, cleansing and renewal.

Throughout the day, our local and spiritual guide, Wandi, will share the history, traditions and spiritual meaning of each location. Carefully guided meditations and awareness practices will lead participants through grounding, emotional observation, inner balance, release and renewal.

This is not simply a sightseeing tour. It is an immersive journey through some of Bali’s most visually breathtaking and energetically meaningful locations—combining joyful encounters with nature, sacred cultural discovery and transformative inner practices.

Tour Itinerary – 15th September

08:30 — Meeting at the Awakening Journey Bali Office

We will meet at our office in central Ubud for a warm welcome and a general introduction to the day.

Wandi will explain the route, the spiritual theme of the journey and the meaning behind the practices we will experience at each location. Participants will be invited to begin the day by becoming present and setting a personal intention connected with emotional balance, flow or renewal.

09:00 — Departure from Ubud

We will leave the office and begin our journey towards the sacred forest of Sangeh.

09:45–10:45 — Sangeh Monkey Forest & Bukit Sari Temple

Our first destination is Sangeh Monkey Forest, a peaceful sanctuary known for its towering nutmeg trees, sacred atmosphere, ancient temple and playful long-tailed macaques.

The monkeys at Sangeh are generally known for their curious and sociable nature. Under the supervision of local staff, meeting them and taking photographs together can be a joyful and unforgettable experience. However, they remain wild animals and may occasionally climb onto visitors.

Interaction with the monkeys is always optional. Participants who would like closer encounters are advised to bring a lightweight protective covering that can securely cover their hair, shoulders and body. The covering should not have loose or dangling parts that could attract the monkeys.

Sunglasses, hats, jewellery, food, plastic bags and other unsecured belongings should be safely stored before entering the forest.

Sangeh is much more than a place to meet monkeys. At the heart of the forest stands Bukit Sari Temple, surrounded by ancient trees and a calm, beautiful energy. The relationship between the temple, the forest and the animals reflects the Balinese understanding of harmony between humanity, nature and the spiritual world.

Wandi will introduce the history and spiritual importance of the location before guiding a short grounding practice focused on:

  • Becoming fully present
  • Connecting with the earth
  • Creating inner stability
  • Opening our awareness to the natural environment
  • Preparing ourselves for the deeper practices ahead

There will also be time to explore the forest and take photographs.

10:45–12:15 — Scenic Journey to Bedugul

We will continue north through traditional villages, agricultural landscapes and mountain roads towards Bedugul.

As we travel higher into Bali’s central highlands, the tropical climate gradually becomes cooler and the landscape transforms into a misty world of mountains, forests and lakes.

12:15–13:30 — Ulun Danu Beratan: Bali’s Legendary Floating Temple

The centrepiece of our journey is Ulun Danu Beratan, one of Bali’s most beautiful, photographed and culturally significant temples.

Located approximately 1,200 metres above sea level, the temple appears to float upon Lake Beratan when the water level rises. Its elegant multi-tiered Meru towers, reflected in the lake and framed by mountains and mist, create one of Bali’s most magical and recognisable views.

The temple complex was established during the Mengwi Kingdom and is dedicated to several Balinese Hindu deities, particularly Dewi Danu, the goddess associated with lakes, rivers, fertility and the life-giving power of water.

Lake Beratan is an important source of water for the surrounding agricultural region. For this reason, the temple has long played a meaningful role in prayers and ceremonies connected with water, fertile land, successful harvests and abundance.

One of the most remarkable features of the complex is the presence of a Buddhist stupa near its Hindu places of worship. Decorated with Buddha figures facing different directions, the stupa has become a symbol of religious harmony. Together with the Hindu foundations of the temple and its wider Asian architectural influences, it reflects centuries of cultural exchange and the peaceful coexistence of different spiritual traditions.

Wandi will guide participants through the temple grounds while sharing its history, symbolism and continuing importance in Balinese spiritual life. There will also be time to enjoy the gardens, connect with the atmosphere and photograph the world-famous floating temple.

Lakeside Emotional Balance Meditation

After exploring the temple, participants will be guided through a reflective meditation inspired by the stillness and symbolic meaning of Lake Beratan.

The calm surface of the lake will become a mirror through which we can observe our inner world with greater clarity. Rather than resisting, suppressing or becoming overwhelmed by our emotions, we will practise witnessing them with awareness and acceptance.

The meditation will focus on:

  • Emotional balance and inner stillness
  • Observing feelings without judgement
  • Releasing the need to control every outcome
  • Restoring harmony between our inner and outer worlds
  • Trusting the natural direction of life
  • Opening ourselves to flow, fertility and abundance

This practice will prepare us to move from the still waters of Lake Beratan towards the flowing waters of Banyumala—symbolically travelling from observation and balance into release and renewal.

13:30–14:30 — Buffet Lunch

We will enjoy an unlimited group buffet lunch at Ulun Danu Restaurant, accompanied by peaceful views of Lake Beratan and the surrounding mountain landscape.

The buffet features a selection of Indonesian and Balinese dishes and will be enjoyed together as a group.

Lunch is included in the tour price. Drinks ordered at the restaurant are not included.

14:30–15:15 — Journey to Banyumala Twin Waterfall

After lunch, we will continue deeper into the green landscapes of North Bali towards Banyumala Twin Waterfall.

During the journey, participants will have time to rest and reflect on the intention they created in the morning and the emotions they observed during the meditation at Lake Beratan.

15:15–17:00 — Banyumala Twin Waterfall

Hidden within a lush tropical valley, Banyumala Twin Waterfall is one of North Bali’s most beautiful natural treasures.

A scenic walk through the forest will lead us to the waterfall and its refreshing natural pool. Participants will have time to relax, connect with nature and swim beneath the cascading water, depending on weather and local conditions.

Swimming is optional but the waterfall has an amazing energy which will help you to transform your energy. So we highly suggest you to swim at the waterfall.

Waterfall Release & Renewal Meditation

At Banyumala, Wandi will guide the final meditation of the journey.

Before entering the water, participants will be invited to return to the intention they created at the beginning of the day. They will reflect on whether that intention has changed, become clearer or revealed a deeper emotional pattern during the journey.

The stillness experienced at Lake Beratan allowed us to observe our inner world. At Banyumala, the movement of the water will represent the next stage: consciously releasing what no longer needs to be carried.

The practice will focus on:

  • Recognising an emotion, thought or pattern we are ready to release
  • Allowing stored emotional energy to move
  • Letting go without resistance
  • Creating space for a new experience
  • Reconnecting with our natural inner flow
  • Welcoming clarity, lightness and renewal

Participants may enter the natural pool after setting their intention and allow the waterfall to become a personal symbol of cleansing and transformation.

The practice will conclude with a moment of gratitude to the water, the land and the experiences of the day.

17:00–17:30 — Changing Clothes and Walking Back

Participants will have time to change into dry clothing before walking back to the vehicle.

17:30 — Departure for Ubud

Approximately 19:00 — Return to the Awakening Journey Bali Office

Return time may vary depending on weather, road and traffic conditions.
